Rajasthan Royals deny IPL franchise ban
The 2008 Indian Premier League champions the Rajasthan Royals have denied reports in the Indian media claiming the franchise was to be scrapped by the BCCI.
A number of Indian newspaper printed stories claiming the BCCI would ban the franchise from taking part in next years IPL because of the mystery surrounding their ownership.
The Royals; who are co-owned by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra and Suresh Chellaram denied the reports saying the rumours had deliberately aimed at maligning the reputation of the franchise.
“The reports are baseless and speculative. There is no such move or information from the BCCI which would suggest anything to this effect,” said a Royals spokesperson.
“These rumours have been clearly perpetrated by people with vested interests and are deliberately aimed at maligning the reputation of the Royals and causing them harm.”
“We are shocked at such reporting, which unnecessarily undermines the Royals and is extremely damaging,” they added.
