Winning start delights Lions skipper Petersen
Highveld Lions skipper Alviro Petersen was delighted with his teams performances after they upset the odds to claim a 9 run victory over the Mumbai Indians at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The victory completed a memorable night for the Lions who made sure the Twenty20 Champions League got off to a perfect start thanks to half centuries from Jonathan Vandiar and Neil McKenzie.
Petersen praised his teamís effect which saw the Lions become the 6th team in Twenty20 Champions League history to inflict a defeat on one of the star studded teams from the Indian Premier League
"I knew the boys will give 100 per cent, we got good runs on the board, and the bowlers backed it up. We set ourselves 160-170, and towards the end we managed more," said Petersen after the game.
"186 was a winning total, but Sachin batted well and gave us some nerves but the boys did well. We had plans for every batter, and Shane (Burger) did it well to double bluff him," he added.
