Wizards hang on to secure victory over Stags
The Canterbury Wizards made it two wins out of two in this years HRV Twenty20 Cup after a nail biting 6 run victory over the Central Stags at the Saxton Oval in Nelson.
The Wizards hung on for victory despite suffering a lower order batting collapsed which had left the Stags needing 148 to claim their first victory in this years tournament.
Having won the toss the Wizards got off to a great start thanks to Rob Nicol (26) and Peter Fulton (40) who shared a first wicket stand of 68 before Fulton was dismissed by Michael Yardy in the 9th over.
Nicol quickly followed before Dean Brownlie (24) and Ryan ten Doeschate (36) added valuable middle order runs before a collapse saw the Wizards end the game 147-8 after reaching 136-3 in the 17th over.
In reply George Worker (59) and Matthew Sinclair (44) lead the run chase after, opener, Peter Ingram was dismissed by Richard Sherlock from the first delivery of the innings.
The pair added 111 runs before Worker was bowled by ten Doeschate, Sinclair followed 4 balls later to start a collapse which saw the Stags fall 6 runs short after they lost 5 wickets in the space of 4 overs.
