Big Bash clash at the Gabba postponed

Saturday nights KFC t20 Big Bash game at the Gabba between the Queensland Bulls and the SpeedBlitz Blues has been postponed due to the extreme flooding in Brisbane and the surrounding area.

After discussions between key stakeholders including the Queensland Government, Fox Sports and Cricket NSW the decision was made to move the game to Monday, January 24th while Brisbane and the surrounding area is still dealing with the effects of the recent flooding.

"Key stakeholders including the Queensland Government, Fox Sports, Cricket NSW and the ACA were consulted and it was agreed that postponing Saturday’s match was the best option in the circumstances," said Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland.

"Australian cricket is committed to providing assistance to our friends in Queensland and will continue to raise much-needed funds for the recovery effort, including encouraging fans around Australia to dig deep at KFC Twenty20 International and Commonwealth Bank Series matches," he added

Queensland Cricket Chief Executive Officer Graham Dixon agreed with the decision saying the decision took into account a range of issues.

"We faced issues with the public transport, with the fact that many people, including some of our players, would still be focussed on getting back into their homes or cleaning up, and the likelihood that the usual police and security resources we rely on would be diverted to the recovery effort," he said.

"While the venue was in good condition, and Kev Mitchell had done another wonderful job to have a wicket prepared, there were some solid logistical challenges for Michael O’Brien catering if we had staged a game."

"These are extraordinary circumstances and sport is like every other segment of the community that has been affected by this flood disaster."

"The fund raising and assistance for the community is a focus for us all at the moment, and no doubt when we play the match it will be a welcome sign for many that things are on the way back to some sort of normality."

"Queensland Cricket is very grateful to Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW, the ACA and Fox Sports for being so flexible to enable us to arrive at this decision."
