Batting collapse hands victory to Redbacks

The Queensland Bulls suffered a middle order batting collapse in their attempts to chase down 160 handing a 10 run victory to the West End Redbacks at a sun baked Adelaide Oval.

The visitors lost 3 wickets in the space of 11 deliveries, thanks to two wickets from Nathan Lyon and one from Aaron OíBrien to leave their run chase floundering on a hot humid night in Adelaide.

Faced with a run chase of 160 the Bulls got off to a lightning start thanks to Lumb who smashed 24 runs from just 13 deliveries which included 12 runs off the first over bowled by Kieron Pollard.

Despite the great start Lumbís swashbuckling didnít last too much longer thanks to Lyon who picked up a wicket from the first delivery of the 4th over to remove the opener.

Amazingly Lyon struck again 5 balls later to remove Chris Simpson (3) who was stumped by Graham Manou to leave the Bulls 31-2 after 4 overs.

With the double break through made the Redbacks pressed home their advantage during the first 10 overs as James Hopes (4), Lee Carseldine (14) and Craig Philipson (19) were all dismissed cheaply to leave the visitors 68-5.

Nathan Reardon (19) and Ben Dunk (14) offered some resistantís with a 6th wicket partnership of 33 but when Reardon was run out by Pollard the Bulls quickly capitulated.

With lower order wickets tumbling Pollard completed his last game for the Redbacks by bowling Brad Ipson (16) with his last delivery before returning to the Caribbean later this week.

Having won the toss the Redbacks recovered from the loss of Michael Klinger in the first over to set the Bulls a victory target of 160. With the temperature reaching 36 degreeís Klinger (6) succumb to the left arm spin of Brad Ipson who dismissed the Redbacks skipper with just the 4 delivery of the match.

Despite the early setback; opener Daniel Harris (45) and new partner Daniel Christian (41) made amends with a second wicket partnership of 88 as the Bulls bowlers wilted in the evening sun.

The pair attacked the visitors bowlers dispatching them for 10 fours and 2 sixes during a partnership which last just over 8 overs but threatened to take the game away from the Bulls.

With a total of 200 looking possible James Hopes finally made the breakthrough removing Christian (41) who was stumped by wicket keeper Ben Dunk after misjudging a full length yorker.

With the breakthrough made the Bulls increased the pressure with the wickets of Harris (45) and Kieron Pollard (6) in quick succession to leave the Redbacks 106-4 after 12.4 overs.

Although Callum Ferguson (38) offered some resistantís the Redbacks collapse continued as Tom Cooper (4) and Graham Manou (6) quickly joined their teammates back in the dugout.

With the loss of Manou in the 19th over after he was bowled by Hopes; Ferguson and Aaron OíBrien (1) added another 13 runs during a 7th wicket partnership to help the home side reach 159-6.
