IPL rules out Tuskers move for Ganguly

The IPL Governing Council has ruled out any chance of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala signing former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly as a replacement player for the injured Steve Smith.

The 21 year old Aussie was ruled out of this year’s tournament after flying home from Australia’s ODI series in Bangladesh to under go ankle surgery after suffering from ankle pain throughout the Australian summer.

Having lost the services of Smith, the Tuskers had hoped to sign Ganguly who was over looked during January’s Player Auction in Bangalore.

Unfortunately the Governing Council ruled out such a move because of Ganguly’s base rate of $400,000 which meant the Tuskers were unable to sign him because Smith was only valued at $200,000.

IPL rules state replacement players can only be signed for the same or less then the price of the player they are replacing meaning Ganguly’s return to the IPL was blocked one again.
