Simmons half century puts West Indies on top

Lendl Simmons scored an impressive half century on his return to international cricket to help the West Indies reach 150-7 against Pakistan in St Lucia.

Simmons was the pick of the West Indies batsman blasting 7 fours and 2 sixes to give the West Indies the perfect start which they failed to capitalise on.

Despite the early loss of Andre Fletcher (1) at the start of the 2nd over the West Indies prospered against a Pakistan attack which laboured on a favourable batting wicket.

Simmons and Darren Bravo shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 99 to get the West Indies off to an impressive start much to the delight of the sparse crowd inside the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet.

Simmons completed a well deserved half century on his return to international cricket, taking just 31 deliveries to record his second t20 International half century.

The opener went on to record an impressive total of 65 before he was run out in the 15th over thanks to some quick fielding from Wahab Riaz at short third man.

Bravo (42) offered some valuable support to Simmons but once the pair were back in the dugout the West Indies middle order failed to take advantage as Pakistan fought their way back into the game.

Marlon Samuels (4), Darren Sammy (1), Danza Hyatt (14) and Andre Russell (0) quickly followed as Saeed Ajmal (35-2) and Wahab Riaz (24-2) picked up two wickets a piece to leave the game evenly poised with Pakistan chasing a victory target of 150-7.
