Symonds and Sharma lead Indians recovery

Andrew Symonds and Rohit Sharma shared a vital 5th wicket partnership of 102 to help the Mumbai Indians recover after losing 3 wickets in the space of 6 deliveries to help the visitors reach 172-4.

The pair came together in the 10th over after the Indians had slumped to just 70-4 but they contributed a vital partnership which helped the visitors set the Chargers a tricky run chase.

Sharma lead the way with a quick fire 33 ball half century as he and Symonds (44) smashed 70 runs during the last 5 overs to tip the balance in favour of the visitors.

Amazingly 40 of those runs came from the last 12 deliveries which saw Dale Steyn concede 16 runs before Daniel Christian suffered a miserable final over which cost the Chargers 24 runs.

Davy Jacobs got the Indians off to a good start; the opener, having been recalled after missing the previous two games scored a quick fire 32 from just 20 deliveries before he was caught by Pragyan Ojha at mid on to give Ishant Sharma the break through.

The wicket keeper scored 5 fours and a six to give the visitors the early impetuous after they were put into bat by Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara.

Despite the loss of Jacobs, Sachin Tendulkar, celebrating his 38th birthday, kept the pressure on the Chargers by dispatching Sharma for consecutive boundaries at the end of the 6th over.

Having put the Indians into bat and seen them get off to a rapid start, Sangakkara brought Amit Mishra back into the attack in the 9th over and the decision paid off almost immediately when Tendulkar (28) hold out to Dale Steyn on the long on boundary.

With Tendulkar gone the Chargers increased their momentum two deliveries later when Ambati Rayudu (7) picked out Shikhar Dawan at deep square leg to leave the Indians 70-3.

Amazingly the Indians lost their third wicket in the space of 6 deliveries when Ojha struck at the start of the 10th over to dismiss Kieron Pollard (0), whose attempted paddle sweep looped up into the air allowing Sangakkara to take an easy catch at short square leg.
