Sangakkara half century rescues Chargers
Kumar Sangakkara scored a vital half century for the Deccan Chargers to help them recover from losing three early wickets to set the Kochi Tuskers Kerela a run chase of 130.
Having been bowled in the 4th over off a now ball having only scored 5, Sangakkara (65) punished the Tuskers by smashing his 9th IPL half century during his extended 46 delivery innings.
Sangakkara and Cameron White (31) lead the Chargers recovery with a vital 4th wicket partnership until Vinay Kumar struck twice in the 17th over to end the pairs resistant’s.
Although Sangakkara made the Tuskers pay dearly the home side will still feel confident after restricting the Chargers to a total of only 129-7.
Despite Sangakkara and White resistant’s no other Chargers batsman reached double figures thanks to some impressive bowling from Vinay Kumar (25-3) and RP Singh (21-2).
Having been put into bat the Chargers got off to a torrid start which saw openers Sunny Sohal (1) and Shikhar Dhawan (4) both dismissed inside the first 3 overs to leave the visitors 6-2.
If could have got even worse for Sangakkara’s side were it not for Brendon McCullum dropping Bharat Chipli before Sreesanth bowled the Chargers skipper off no ball in the 4th over.
Although Sangakkara was offered a lifeline Chipli (4) failed to punish the Tuskers after he picked out Sreesanth at mid off after he attempted to chip a delivery from Vinay Kumar over mid-wicket in the 6th overs.
Having lost three early wickets the Chargers struggled to build a competitive innings as they reached the end of the power play overs 20-3, the worst figures in this year’s tournament.
With the pressure already mounting Sangakkara and White slowly rebuilt the Chargers innings thanks to a 4th wicket stand of 90 between the experienced international pair.
