Sabres looking for revenge at the Rose Bowl
The Somerset Sabres return to the scene of last years heartbreaking Friends Life t20 Final defeat when they take on the Hampshire Royals at the Rose Bowl tonight.
The Sabres will be looking to gain revenge after the Royals pulled off one of the most remarkable victories in t20 history after Jimmy Adams scrambled for a leg bye from the final delivery of the match to help the Royals claim the title by virtue of losing fewer wickets after the game ended in a tie.
"It will be nice to get the Twenty20 going again and this is just another game of cricket as far as we are concerned," said skipper Marcus Trescothick.
"This is an enjoyable time of the season for us and it's exciting cricket for us to play and for the supporters to watch. It will be nice to have Murali Kartik and Alfonso Thomas back and of course we have also got Roelof van der Merwe in the team," he added.
The rematch will be the perfect opportunity for the Sabres to gain the upper hand and get this year’s campaign off to a winner start at the Rose Bowl against a Royal team which has only won one, of their first eleven games in the County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40.
"This is a stiff match for us to start off with and is a repeat of the final last year. They have strengthened their side so it will be an interesting contest," said Sabres Director of cricket Brian Rose.
"However we are pretty confident in our striking ability and we really do have some excellent strikers of the ball in our line up," he added.
