Wright helps Sharks seal third straight win
Luke Wright scored an unbeaten half century to help the Sussex Sharks seal a 17 run victory over the Essex Eagles at the County Ground in Chelmsford.
The opener scored an unbeaten 81 from just 51 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and three sixes to help the visitors record a total of 168-6.
Wright and Chris Nash (44) shared an opening stand of 106 before Nash was dismissed by Tim Phillips at the start of the 12th over which seemed to change the course of the game.
With the partnership broken, the Eagles increased their advantage by dismissing Murray Goodwin (0) and Lou Vincent (8) in quick succession as the Sharks middle order started to wobble.
With Wright watching on from the non strikers end the visitors lost Michael Yardy (10), Joe Gatting (2) and Naved-ul-Hassan (1) cheaply, before Nash and Wayne Parnell shared a vital 7th wicket stand of 26 to help the visitors set the Eagles a victory target of 169.
Faced with a relatively low run chase at the County Ground the Eagles lost Ravi Bopara (1) and Graham Naiper (7) early on as the Sharks wrestled back the momentum from the hosts.
Opener Mark Pettini (25) quickly followed and through Owais Shah played a vital role, scoring 39 runs no other batsman was able to remain at the crease long enough to trouble the Sharks.
Once Shah was dismissed by Wright in the 15th over, which left the Eagles 89-5 the home side were unable to mount a comeback despite a 8th wicket stand of 30 between James Foster (19) and Tim Southee (11).
