Yorkshire hold on to record tense victory

Yorkshire Carnegie survived a tense final over to record their first win in this years Friends Life t20 tournament thanks to a two run victory over the Worcestershire Royals at Headingley.

The home side looked set to record a comfortable victory before Gareth Andrew (60) smashed five boundaries and four sixes from just 26 deliveries to take the game right down to the final delivery .

Having scored nine runs from the first five balls of the last over, Shaaiq Choudhry (5) failed to score a boundary from the final ball of the match as Rich Pyrah denied the visitors a stunning victory

Faced with a tricky run chase, the Royals got off to a poor start losing Moeen Ali (1), Alexei Kervezee (0), Vikram Solanki (28) and Shakib Al Hasan inside the opening 7 overs to leave the visitors 37-4.

James Cameron (28) and Daryl Mitchell (15) kept the Royals faint hopes alive before Gareth Andrew launched a stunning blitz which saw him score a 20 ball half century which included four boundaries and four sixes

Having won the toss, the home side made light work of the Royals bowling attack to leave the visitors facing a run chase of 153 thanks to solid contributions from Andrew Gale (29), Jonny Bairstow (24) and Anthony McGrath (21).

Although Gale ended the innings as the top scorer the home side were always in control of the game with only Gary Ballance (9) and Rich Pyrah (5) failing to reach double figures.
