Owais Shah leads Eagles to victory at Lords
Owais Shah scored a vital half century to help the Essex Eagles seal a five wicket victory over the winless Middlesex Panthers in a thrilling match at Lords.
Shah smashed five fours and five sixes, scoring 78 runs from just 50 deliveries to help the Eagles bounce back from their disappointing 17 run defeat against the Sussex Sharks last night.
The former Panthers player came to the crease with the Eagles 1-2 after Steven Crook and Steven Finn picked up the wickets of Ravi Bopara (0) and Mark Pettini (0) inside the opening two overs.
With the pressure mounting Shah remained at the crease through out the remainder of the Eagles innings, sharing a 6th wicket stand of 67 with James Foster (30) to seal victory after the loss of Matt Walker (11), Ryan ten Doeschate (17) and Scott Styris (7) in quick succession.
Having won the toss, the home side recorded a total of 150-5 thanks to solid contributions from Neil Dexter (32), John Simpson (29) and Chris Rogers (25).
Although Dexter ended the innings as the top scorer the home side were always in control of their innings with only opener Paul Stirling failing to reach double figures after he was dismissed by Tim Southee in the opening over.
