Falcons quarter final hopes boosted by Durston
A half century from Wes Durston helped the Derbyshire Falcons keep their Friends Life t20 quarter finals hopes alive thanks to a 33 run victory over the Warwickshire Bears at Edgbaston.
Durston (64) led the way, smashing seven boundaries during his 58 ball innings to help the Falcons record a total of 162-5 which proved too much for the Bears to chase down.
Martin Guptill added a quick fire 38 from just 26 balls before he was dismissed by Ant Botha (1-31) in the 9th over after he shared an opening stand of 83 with Durston.
Having got off to a good start the Falcons failed to maintain their advantage as the Bears fought their way back into the game to leave hosts with a run chase of 163.
Varun Chopra got the Bears reply off to a rapid start, thanks to a quick fire 40 which came from just 17 deliveries and included five boundaries and two sixes.
Despite Chopra’s aggressive start, the Bears lost wickets at regular intervals to fall 33 runs short of their target after they were bowled out for just 129 in the 17th over.
The defeat leaves the Bears five points behind the 4th place Worcestershire Royals with just fours game to play while the Falcons remain in 6th place but are now just one point behind the Royals with a game in hand.
