Sharks hit by Murray Goodwin suspension

The Sussex Sharks will go into tonight’s vital Friends Life t20 clash against the Kent Spitfires without Murray Goodwin who was suspended for one game by an ECB disciplinary Panel.

A three man panel decided to ban Goodwin after the player had pleaded guilty to a breach of ECB Directive 3, Conduct and Behaviour which makes it clear that cricketers shall at all times conduct themselves fairly and properly on the field.

The loss of Goodwin, who steered the Sharks to victory over the Glamorgan Dragons last night, will be a huge blow for the Sharks as the race for the Friends Life t20 quarter finals heats up.

Speaking after the announcement, Sharks Chief Executive, Dave Brooks said the team was disappointed by the outcome as they felt Goodwin’s previously good personal record merited a measure of leniency.

"However, this ruling sends out a clear message to all the Counties and professional cricketers that such behaviour will be dealt with severely, and in a manner over and above the fixed penalty system," he added.
