Misfiring Lightning secure quarter final spot
The Lancashire Lightning secured their place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals after they recorded a tense 12 run victory over the Warwickshire Bears at Old Trafford.
The victory guarantees the Lightning third place in the Northern group and leaves the Worcestershire Royals and Durham Dynamos to fight over fourth position and a place in the quarters finals.
Stephen Moore laid the foundations for the victory with a brilliant innings of 76 which came from just 58 deliveries and included six boundaries and one six.
The opener had looked to put the Lightning in control of the game but the hostís innings went off the rails after they lost their last 6 wickets in the space of just 25 deliveries to slip to a total of just 139-8.
Despite having nothing to play for, the Bears started off in a positive fashion thanks to a half century from William Porterfield (63) which put the visitors on top at the half way stage of their innings.
With wickets in hand, the Bears should have gone on to record an impressive victory but they were unable to stay up with the required run rate after another economical bowling display from Junaid Khan (0-23) and Gary Keedy (1-22).
