Collingwood hat trick seals Dynamos victory
The Durham Dynamos strengthened their chances of securing the final quarter final spot in the Friends Life t20 North group thanks to a comprehensive 97 run victory over the lowly Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
The victory moves the Dynamos up into fourth place, one point ahead of the Worcestershire Royals who must now beat the Nottinghamshire Outlaws tomorrow night in the final round of group games to deny the Dynamos a place in the quarter finals.
The hosts cruised to victory thanks to a stunning spell of bowling from former England t20 skipper Paul Collingwood (5-6) who picked up a hat trick as he ripped through the Steelbacks middle order.
With nothing to play for, the Steelbacks collapsed in spectacular fashion which saw them bowled out for just 47, the lowest ever total recorded in the history of domestic t20 cricket in England and the joint 2nd lowest off all time.
Dale Benkenstein (31) and David Miller (30) laid the foundations for the Dynamos sixth victory of the tournament after the hosts struggled early on at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
Having been reduced to just 87-5, Benkenstein played the perfect captains role, smashing four boundaries to end the innings unbeaten on 31, to help the Dynamos record a total of 144-7.
