Pietersen and Patel lead England to victory
England ended their disappointing mini tour of India on a high thanks to a comprehensive six wicket victory over the hosts in a one sided t20 International at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The current t20 World Champions strengthened their place at the top of the ICC t20 International rankings after they chased down a victory target of just 121 to seal victory in their one of t20 international against India.
Kevin Pietersen (53) and Samit Patel (21) lead the way, thanks to a third wicket stand of 60 which helped England seal victory with eight deliveries to spare.
Having suffered a disappointing ODI series, Pietersen bounced back with the bat, smashing five boundaries and three sixes to record his 6th t20 International half century after he was dropped by Suresh Raina having scored just one run.
Raina got some revenge by trapping Pietersen LBW in the 16th over but with just 15 runs needed, Ravi Bopara (15) and Jonny Bairstow (2) saw England comfortably home to record their first victory in India since 2006.
Having won the toss, India struggled against Steven Finn (3-22), Bopara (2-16) and Tim Bresnan (2-19) who bowled superbly top help restrict the hosts to a below par total of 120-9.
Having slumped to a total of just 26-3, Raina lead the recovery with a quick fire 39 but even with contributions from MS Dhoni (21) from Ravichandran Ashwin (17) it wasn’t enough to stop England from cruising to victory.
