Warner smashes match winning century

The Sydney Thunder cruised to a simple six wicket victory over the Melbourne Stars thanks to David Warner who smashed another impressive century to thwart the Stars at the MCG.

Fresh from a century for Austrilia in Hobart against New Zealand, Warner registered the first ever KFC Big Bash League century which saw him smash six boundaries and six sixes to help the Thunder record their first victory.

The Stars skipper remained unbeaten on 102 as the Stars cruised past the Stars victory target of 154 with six balls to spare thanks to a 68 run, 5th wicket stand between Warner and Ben Dunk (19).

Faced with a tricky run chase the Stars lost Chris Gayle (4) and Usman Khawaja (3) early on but with Warner at the crease, victory was assured against a Stars bowling line up which looked unlikely to make the vital break through.

Having been put into bat the Stars recorded a total of 153-7 thanks in no small part to David Hussey (52) who smashed a quick fire half century after the loss of Rob Quiney (7) and Matthew Wade (14).

Luke Wright (27) and George Bailey (23) offered Hussey assistance but on a good batting track a below par total of 153-7 was always going to be tricky to defend.
