Heat hold on to end Hurricanes unbeaten start
The Hobart Hurricanes unbeaten start to the KFC Big Bash League was ended in dramatic style by the Brisbane Heat who won a thrilling match by just three runs after a dramatic finish at the Gabba.
Despite setting the visitors a massive victory target of 202, the Heat had to wait until the final delivery of the match to secure victory after Travis Brit (74) and Owais Shah (69) had seemingly steered the visitors to victory with a 3rd wicket stand of 141.
With 15 runs needed from the final over, Shah dispatched Alistair McDermott’s first four deliveries for 12 runs to leave the Hurricanes needing just four runs from the final two deliveries having reached 198-2.
But the previously winless Heat hit back thanks to McDermott who ran Brit out off his own bowling before his final delivery of the match was smashed to the long on boundary by Shah straight into the hands of Daniel Christian to spark wild celebrations from the home side.
In what proved to be a high scoring game, big hitting Matthew Hayden led the way smashing six boundaries and three sixes to score a quick fire 76 to help the Heat posts a mammoth total of 201-4.
Andrew Robinson (44) and Roelof van der Merwe (24) offered support to put the Heat in control and even though the Hurricanes found themselves 57-2 in the 8th over the visitors were always a danger until McDermott made the vital break through.
