Kings XI hold on to secure two run victory
Harmeet Singh produced the perfect final over to deny the Kolkata Knight Riders and seal a two run victory for the Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Knight Riders came into the final over needing just nine runs but Singh held his nerve to seal victory after he conceded just six runs and picked up the wicket of Ryan ten Doeschate (11).
Debabrate Das scored a vital 35 from just 23 balls but it was the Kings XI who held on to seal their second win of the tournament.
Faced with a victory target of 135, the Knight Riders had slumped to just 79-5 before Das smashed three boundaries and one six while to lead the Knight Riders fight back to set up a tight finish after the home sides top order failed to fail with Jacques Kallis (1), Shakib Hasan (4) and Yusuf Pathan (0) all being dismissed cheaply.
Having batted first, the Kings XI disappointed with the bat after they could only manage to record a total of 134-9 despite a fine start from Mandeep Singh (38) and David Hussey (32).
The pair shared a 3rd wicket stand of 52 before the visitors suffered a middle order batting collapse which saw them loss five wickets in the space of three overs thanks in part to Sunil Narine (5-19) who stared with the ball.
