Patient Gayle leads Royal Challengers to victory
Another measured half century from Chris Gayle was enough top help the Royal Challengers Bangalore complete a five wicket victory over the Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
Gayle saw the visitors home with a patient innings which saw him score 87 runs, including eight fours and four sixes to help the Royal Challengers make it two wins on the trot after they chased down the Kings XIís total of 163-6 with ease.
The big hitting West Indian slowly built his innings despite the early losses of Mayank Agarwal (1), Virat Kohli (4) and Saurabh Tiwary (4) which saw the visitors slump to just 25-3 after 5.1 overs.
Gayle shared an almost trouble free 4th wicket stand of 131 with AB de Villiers (52) as the Royal Challengers made it back to back victories after suffering three straight defeats.
The Kings XI finally broke through in the 18th over thanks to an excellent one handed catch from David Hussey to remove but it was too little too late for the home side.
It proved to be another frustrating day with the bat for the Kings XIís top order who failed to fire once again with only Hussey (41) offering the only suggestion of attack.
Paul Valthaty (6) and Nitin Saini (14) both went cheaply early on and although Hussey and Shuan Marsh (26) offered some hope it was left to Azhar Mahmood to give the home side a small chance of victory with a quick fire 33 from just 14 balls.
