White heroics in vain; Dragons frustrated by rain
Cameron White smashed an unbeaten half century but it wasn’t enough to stop the winless Northants Steelbacks from slipping to a 14 run defeat against the Worcestershire Royals at the County Ground in Northampton.
The Aussie smashed 62 runs from just 42 balls including one boundary and four sixes but it wasn’t enough to stop the home side from recording their fourth straight defeat of the tournament.
Despite White’s heroics the Royals recorded a comfortable victory thanks in part to a 3rd wicket stand of 101 between James Cameron (57) and Phil Hughes (52) which helped the Royals record a total of 142-5.
Chaminda Vaas (2-15) gave the Steelbacks hope by removing Cameron and Hughes from consecutive deliveries in the penultimate over but the damage had already been done with 50 runs scored during the final five overs.
In the nights other game the Welsh Dragons and Gloucestershire Gladiators could only watch on as heavy rain thwarted any attempts for their match to get under way at the The SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff.
With more rain forecast for the rest of the evening the umpires were left with little choice but to abandoned the match without a ball being bowl just after 19:00.
