Styris century seals 39 run victory for the Sharks

Scott Styris smashed the third fastest century in the history of t20 cricket to help the Sussex Sharks seal a 39 run victory over the Gloucestershire Gladiators at the County Ground in Hove.

The Kiwi smashed 100 runs from just 37 to help the home side post an imposing total of 230-4 despite the early loss of Chris Nash (1) and Luke Wright (1) after just seven deliveries of the match.

Styris (100) arrived at the crease after Matt Prior (60) was run out in the 12th over; the Kiwi wasted little time at the crease as he quickly reached 42 from just 21 before the game was turned on its head in the 18th over.

With the game evenly balanced Styris smashed James Fuller (0-57) for 38 runs which included 10 runs from no balls to put the home side firmly in charge.

Styris ended the match 100 not out, having smashed five boundaries and nine sixes during a 4th wicket stand of 129 with Murray Goodwin (55) who was dismissed from the final ball on the innings.

Faced with a victory target of 231 it was little surprise the Gladiators failed to chase down the Sharks total with almost 12 runs an over needed to seal a place in the Finals day next month in Cardiff.

Dan Housego (47) and Alex Gidman (43) offered some hope but with a mountain to climb and no Styris type blitz created the Gladiators slumped to defeat.
