Stumbling Irish hand advantage to the Windies

Irelands hopes of reaching the Super Eight suffered a major blow after another disappointing batting display handed the advantage to the West Indies in their make or break Group B decider at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Having been put into bat first the Irish lost William Porterfield () in the opening over after the skipper was bowled by Fidel Edwards (1-23) with the first delivery of the match for the second game in a row.

Paul Stirling (19) and Ed Joyce steadied the inning with a 2nd wicket stand os 33 which was ended by Sunil Narine 1-21) in the 5th over after a 25 minute delay because of rain which shorted Ireland’s innings to 19 overs.

Niall O’Brien (25) and Gary Wilson (21) enjoyed brief cameo’s but with wickets falling at regular intervals the West Indies remained in control to leave them with a run chase of just 130 after the Irish were restricted to a total of just 126-6.
