Centurion Guptill leads New Zealand to victory

Martin Guptill scored a stunning century to help New Zealand seal an eight wicket victory over South Africa at Mercedes Benz Park in East London to tie their two game t20 International series.

With the pressure mounting Guptill (101) smashed the final delivery of the match bowled by Morne Morkel through the covers for a boundary to bring up his first ever t20 International century and more importantly seal victory for the Kiwis.

The opener smashed nine boundaries and six sixes to help New Zealand chase down their Duckworth Lewis adjusted victory target of 169 with help from Rob Nicol (25) and Brendon McCullum (17).

Having batted first South Africa recorded a total of 165-5 from their 19 overs after the home side’s innings was delayed for over 50 minutes because of an electrical failure in one of the floodlights.

Despite the loss of Richard Levi (5) early on Faf du Plessis (63) and Henry Davids (55) shared a second wicket stand of 68 to put the South African’s on top before Davids was dismissed in the 12th over.

David Miller enjoyed a brief cameo of 33 before du Plessis’s innings was brought to an end by Doug Bracewell (3-33) in the final over to leave the Kiwis facing a Duckworth Lewis adjusted run chase of 169.
