Dominic out to put a Cork in it

Dominic Cork returns to his former county Derbyshire tonight, for the start of the Twenty20 Cup, knowing that only a win will silence his old supporters.

Cork, who signed on at Old Trafford in 2004, has been jeered by the Derby faithful every time he has come up against them but he certainly knows how to deal with it.

"Derby is a place I enjoy going back to but only if we have won the game.

"There are times when I go back there and get a bit of stick, but that's part of cricket and it doesn't bother me one bit if we win.

"There is no doubt that they will be up for this game. They won't care whether we are top of the Championship and in a Lord's final, they will just want to win this game."

With Andrew Flintoff, James Anderson, Sajid Mahmood and Glen Chapple all missing from the Lancashire attack, Cork has really proved his worth over the past few weeks with bat and ball.

He followed up 14 wickets in the two Championship games against Warwickshire and Middlesex with a crucial 33 not out at Edgbaston to guide his side to Lord's on Sunday.

"We have got to get back to where we have been in this Twenty20 competition over the past few years," said Cork.

"It doesn't matter that we have beaten these kind of sides in the past it is now a clean slate, and Derbyshire are in a bit of one-day form at the moment. We will certainly have to be aware of their threat."

Lancashire have recalled batsman Paul Horton to their 12-man squad for the clash that starts at 7pm tonight and is due to finish under floodlights.

Due to their current form, and the way they performed in Twenty20 over the past two seasons, the Red Rose have been earmarked as firm favourites to lift the trophy this year.

"If people want to look at us as the best team in the country that's up to them," said Cricket Manager Watkinson.
