Hogg takes Bears top

Brad Hogg collected his second Twenty20 Cup four-wicket haul in as many matches as Warwickshire beat Glamorgan.

Glamorgan's unbeaten Twenty20 Cup record fell in spectacular fashion against Warwickshire last night.

Having restricted Warwickshire to 152-9 Glamorgan had looked well on course for a third straight victory after they reached 75-1 in the ninth over.

But spin was Glamorgan's undoing as they proceeded to lose their last nine wickets in only 62 balls.

Brad Hogg, the Australian left-arm chinaman, was the main architect with four for 30 as the slower bowlers claimed seven of the first eight wickets to fall.

Matthew Maynard and Ian Thomas had put Glamorgan in a healthy position but both rather threw away their wickets.

Maynard, who had scored a 29-ball half-century, miscued a drive to cover and earlier Ian Thomas was one of four Glamorgan batsmen to get themselves stumped.

Surprisingly Warwickshire had opted to bat first even though the wicket had been under the covers most of the day and Glamorgan had successfully chased targets in their last two outings.

And Glamorgan's positive start to the tournament continued when Andrew Davies striking with his first ball to register a rare Twenty20 Cup wicket maiden.

It was an important wicket considering Davies bowled the hard-hitting Neil Carter.

After that Warwickshire were never able to get into their stride as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Last year's finalists found themselves in some bother at 59-4 in the seventh and then 111-7 in the 15th.

Hogg was top scorer with 34 from 34 balls and only one other player got out of the teens - Graham Wagg, who claimed one of the two sixes in the innings.

And some tight Glamorgan bowling - Davies led the way with three for 23 - backed up by plenty of impressive fielding from the likes of Maynard and Dean Cosker helped to restrict Warwickshire to just nine fours.

But Glamorgan just were not up to the task of chasing in the fading light and will now have to win one of their remaining two matches against Gloucestershire and Worcestershire next week to have a chance of making it into the last eight.

Meanwhile, Simon Jones is included in Glamorgan's squad for the one-day clash against Sri Lanka A at Sophia Gardens today.

Jones will be using it as part of his comeback from a foot injury ahead of England's Test series against West Indies starting at Lord's on July 22.
