Race for home semis in Pro20

The Cape Cobras, on a high after two excellent wins, and the unbeaten Highveld Lions will be aiming to clinch home semi-finals when the Pro20 Series cricket competition continues on Friday.

As the league phase of the competition draws to a close, the Cobras and the Lions have already clinched semi-final berths while the four remaining sides are heading for a serious scrap to join them.

Victories for them on Friday will make it virtually certain that they will end in the top two positions on the log.

The Lions host the Titans at the Wanderers in what should be a titanic Gauteng derby as Martin van Jaarsveld's side strive to overcome the blitz that met them in the Cape on Wednesday.

This was a Cape storm of a different kind as Adam Bacher, JP Duminy and Rory Kleinveldt belted the Titans attack all over Newlands to total a massive 212 in their 20 overs, ultimately winning by 38 runs.

Now the Titans, with four points from three games, desperately need a win to stay in the running, although they will expect no favours from their southern neighbours.

The Lions have had some narrow wins in their streak of success in the competition this season, but they'll be determined to claim at least one more win from their final two matches. They finish off against the Warriors in East London on Wednesday.

Logleaders Cobras face bottom-placed Dolphins in Durban in Friday's other match.

While the Dolphins have a loss and a no result to their credit so far, they still have three games remaining and cannot be written off at this stage.

They will be aware, however, that victory on Friday is essential to relieve some of the pressure on them.

The Cobras, though, are in magnificent batting form and there'll be fireworks at Kingsmead if they get off to another flying start on Friday.
