Punjab to lock horns with Haryana

Having emerged recently as the best one-day side in the northern region, Punjab would look to translate that form in the shortest version of the game when they battle it out in the Twenty20 North Zone.

Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag will be the star attractions in the north zone leg of BCCI's inaugural Twenty20 domestic event.

Five teams Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and hosts Delhi are taking part in the round robin format tournament, which would conclude on April 8.

The two top sides will then qualify for the three-day knock out round scheduled to be played in Mumbai from April 12.

The five-day tournament will have Punjab taking on the challenge of Haryana in the second match of the day to be played during the afternoon session at the Ferozshah Kotla.

Captained by middle-order batsman Pankaj Dharmani, Punjab will enjoy the services of Yuvraj Singh, just returned from India's disastrous World Cup campaign. Missing in action however will be Harbhajan Singh who has said a firm 'no' to his participation and will be spending time at home in Jalandhar.

Speaking to Sportline, Dharmani said, "We have not really played too much twenty20 cricket before, so it will be a fairly new experience for us. But I am confident that the team will do well in the tournament."

Dharmani was also upbeat about having Yuvraj Singh in the team. " It is a big bonus for us and a major morale booster," he said.

The first match of the day, meanwhile, will see Delhi launch its campaign against Himachal Pradesh.
