Rana, a Twenty20 specialist

India may soon have Twenty20 specialists. Rana Chaudhary could be one of them, in two matches at the all-India inter-state Twenty20 tournament, Chaudhary has scored 124 runs and has been dismissed just once.

Even more impressive is the fact that these runs have come off just 64 balls. In 48 hours, the Dhanbad lad has smashed nine sixes and an equal number of fours. Tamil Nadu, first, and later Haryana, were at the receiving end.

“He is being sent in the middle-order to hit the spinners out of the park. We know can hit the ball a long way, and he is doing exactly that,” said Bengal skipper Manoj Tewari.

“I just know how to attack, and Twenty20 allows me to do just that,” said Chaudhary after Monday’s match. Chaudhary is yet to play in Ranji Trophy for Bengal, though he was called for the pre-season camp.

“I know that if I play well, I will make it to the team next season,” Chaudhary said.

“These last two games have given be immense confidence.” Chaudhary is a left-arm medium-pacer as well. “I’ll try and bowl more, if that improves my chances to succeed as a cricketer,” Chaudhary said.

Another cricketer who is from the hinterland, and has a humble background, could make it big, if nurtured properly. On his part, Chaudhary, at 28, doesn’t have much time to sit on the sidelines. The kind of performances he has produced here, though, may just push his case.
