Snape looks for repeat of opening show

It is easy to understand the frustration felt in the Leicestershire Foxes camp after Monday's scheduled game at Nottingham was washed out.

The game looked to be a mouth-watering prospect at one of the country's premier venues, heightened by the fact that both the Foxes and the Nottinghamshire Outlaws were going into it in prime form.

Tim Boon's men have to forget all about that now and get their Twenty20 campaign back on track tonight, when they face the Durham Dynamos at Chester-le-Street.

The Dynamos' record in the competition may be ordinary but the Foxes will not take them lightly.

Durham have already proved their one-day prowess this season by reaching the final of the Friends Provident Trophy.

On the way to that, they served up an absolute hammering to Leicestershire at Grace Road, where John Maunders' half-century was just about the only positive point from an otherwise abject home performance.

The 20-over competition is markedly different, though, and the Foxes showed their hunger for more success last Friday when they dismantled Yorkshire Phoenix in front of a sell-out crowd at Grace Road.

It was an all-round performance that left skipper Jeremy Snape a happy man, giving the side a platform on which to build in the ultra-tough north division.

"It was a really good start," he said. "We have welcomed a few new players into the side and the players have also been given more responsibility.

"Everybody has had a taster of what this season's line-up is about.

"I know a lot of the guys were delighted with the win but we know that there is still a lot of work to be done."

The batting and bowling performances against Yorkshire spoke for themselves, first piling up a sizeable total then restricting the visitors in their run chase. Snape was satisfied also that the bowling was backed by some sharp fielding. Most notably Leicestershire held some excellent catches under pressure to make sure that Yorkshire fell behind the rate.

The Foxes captain wants to see a repeat on all fronts tonight as his side target a second win before they head into two demanding East Midlands derbies at Derbyshire on Friday then at home to Notts on Saturday afternoon.
