Brown looks to bounce back
Jason Brown insists the Steelbacks have no time to dwell on their defeat to Warwickshire Bears as they prepare to take on Glamorgan Dragons in the Twenty20 Cup tonight.
David Capel's men cross the border into Wales to face the Dragons under floodlights at the new-look Sophia Gardens in Cardiff this evening with the Midlands/ West/Wales Division having a tight look to it.
The defeat at Edgbaston on Tuesday saw the Bears move clear at the top with the Steelbacks one of a very close chasing pack which includes tonight's opponents.
And while Brown admitted there was an element of disappointment about the 12-run defeat in Birmingham, he says they are ready to bounce back and enhance their chances of reaching the quarter-finals for the third year in a row.
The spinner, who claimed two wickets against the Bears, said: "The great thing about this competition is that the games come thick and fast.
"It's always disappointing to lose but there is certainly no-one being downhearted in our camp and we are just looking forward to the next game and seeing if we can take the points.
"You only have to look at the table to see how close it is and even though Warwickshire have won three games they know they can't afford any slip-ups.
"In the last couple of years we didn't start particularlywell but won three or four games in a row and it got us into the quarter-finals.
"Obviously that's what we want to do again and, of course, the big aim is to try and go a step further. It would be terrific to go to the finals day in front of a huge crowd."
Brown has been the perfect example of a spinner succeeding in the Twenty20 game with an impressive record over the last couple of years and he proved it again at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
He believes the spinners are benefiting as much as anyone from the fast-paced action of the short matches.
"Different wickets suit different bowlers and it was quite a good wicket for spin at Edgbaston," Brown said.
"But the spinners are the ones taking the pace out of it a little bit and if you look around the games spin bowlers are picking up a few wickets.
"I enjoy the Twenty20 game but it's all about us doing well as a team."
