Twenty20 World Cup trophy unveiled
ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed on Wednesday unveiled the trophy that will be at stake when the ICC World Twenty20 tournament gets underway in South Africa on 11 September.
The ICC World Twenty20 trophy represents the essence of the new game’s style, breaking with tradition, contemporary and slightly radical.
The design is based on the field dynamics of balls being hit to the boundary and being returned in a quick interactive process.
The trophy has a sense of open space and mobile phone technology.
Designed by leading international designers Minale Bryce Design Strategy, it is made of a combination of silver, gold plate and rhodium.
The tournament is the first of its kind at international Twenty20 level and will see 27 matches take place at three venues – Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg – between 11 and 24 September.
The tournament begins with hosts South Africa playing the West Indies at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg and culminates with the final at the same venue.
