Top Stories Collingwood has faith in Broad Paul Collingwood expects fast bowler Stuart Broad to bounce back from being hit for six sixes in an over against India in the ICC World Twenty20. The 21-year-old suffered every bowler’s nightmare when Yuvraj Singh hit him for 36 in six balls as England’s campaign came to a disappointing end on Wednesday. Spurred on by being hit himself for five successive sixes by Dimitri Mascarenhas at the Brit Oval a fortnight ago, Yuvraj launched into the 19th over of India’s innings at Durban following a verbal spat with Andrew Flintoff. His efforts lifted India to 218 for four and, ultimately, an 18-run victory. Broad is the fourth bowler in history to suffer such an ordeal and England captain Collingwood said: “He’s never going to get rid of that unfortunately and he realises that. “He’s a very proud man, he’s got a lot of pride in his bowling and that will hurt him, but it’s up to us all - me as captain and all the players - to get behind him and support him. “The way he’s been during this season has been fantastic. He’s been one of our best bowlers, the way he’s learnt and progressed, so I’m sure this knock back won’t affect him too much.” Broad finished with damning figures of 0-60 from four overs as India reached their impressive total, the fourth highest international Twenty20 score. “To have an over like that from Yuvraj with the best striking I’ve ever seen was amazing and I’m feeling a bit sorry for Stuart,” confirmed Collingwood. “I’m afraid that in this Twenty20 format it was only a matter of time before we were going to get an over like that. “I thought generally through this tournament we bowled pretty well but the Indian batsman got a hold of us. “I’ve never seen hitting like that consistently. The thing was he wasn’t hitting the ball in exactly the same area. “It went all the way around the park from backward point, over mid-on, over mid-off and over square-leg – it was literally going everywhere.” far from capitulate after watching Yuvraj’s spectacular show, England made an impressive effort to finish on 200 for six after reaching a position where they needed 36 off the final over. “I thought we made a top effort and a great fist of it in reply with our innings,” stressed Collingwood. “We showed a lot of character there. We could easily have gone down cheaply but we didn’t and gave it a good go. “It’s been disappointing tournament in results terms but we have done is learn a hell of a lot. We’ve learned a lot about players and the teams you need. “If you look through the tournament - it’s been the really experienced players that have done well like (Sanath) Jayasuriya, (Adam) Gilchrist, (Matthew) Hayden, (Mahela) Jayawardene – all of them have gone out and performed. “I think that’s going to be the key the next time – when you come to a Twenty20 World Cup like this you have to have players in there who’ve played a lot and know their games well because it’s a really pressurised situation.” England will move on to Johannesburg for a few days relaxation before they travel on to Sri Lanka for the start of a five-match one-day series. source - ecb.co.uk
