Tigers crush South Aus in Twenty20

Tasmania has cruised to an eight-wicket victory over South Australia in their KFC Twenty20 Big Bash match at Bellerive Oval on Sunday.

After the Redbacks were restricted to 7/127 off their 20 overs, the Tigers batsmen needed just 10.2 overs to reach the target.

Rhett Lockyear led the charge with a blistering 64 off 27 balls, a knock which featured 11 fours and two sixes.

Teammates Michael Dighton (30 not out off 21 balls) and Dane Anderson (17 off 7 balls) also made valuable contributions as the Tigers romped to victory.

A 90-run first wicket partnership between Dighton and Lockyear was the catalyst for the home side's comfortable win.

Earlier, a strong bowling and fielding display by the Tigers restricted the visitors building upon a strong opening to their innings.

The Redbacks were out of the blocks early thanks to some impressive hitting from Matthew Elliott (24 off 16 balls) but three quick wickets saw the visitors fall to 3-34 after five overs.

Callum Ferguson (40) and Nathan Adcock (39) steadied the ship combining for a 54-run partnership before Mark Divin snared the breakthrough wicket.

The South Australian tail failed to set the scoreboard on fire as the Tigers bowlers kept a tight line and length until the end of the innings.

Ben Hilfenhaus was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-21 from his four overs.
