Hayden and Johnson rested from Twenty20

Australian has named a mixture of experienced and fresh faces in their Twenty20 international squad to take on India at the MCG on Friday night.

Captain Ricky Ponting returns to the line-up after sitting out the Twenty20 match against New Zealand earlier in the summer.

Matthew Hayden was a notable omission from the squad after the selection panel decided to give the big opener further recovery time for his troublesome hamstring before the one-day series begins against India at the 'Gabba on Sunday.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Johnson has also been rested after a long Test series as one of the spearheads of the Australian attack.

Fellow Queenslander Ashley Noffke has been rewarded for his impressive displays on the domestic scene with a spot in the squad.

Victorian David Hussey has also forced himself into the 13 after scoring 414 runs at a strike rate of 159.85 in the recent domestic Twenty20 competition.

He will play alongside brother Michael, which makes the Husseys the first brothers to represent Australia since the Waughs, Steve and Mark.

"I'm nervous about it but excited as well," David Hussey said. "To be honest, I wasn't actually expecting it."

The one-day international squad for the tri-series against India and Sri Lanka will be announced tomorrow.

Australian Twenty20 squad: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hodge, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Brett Lee, Ashley Noffke, Andrew Symonds, Adam Voges.
