Tykes insist Morkel is on board

Yorkshire have confirmed that Morne Morkel is still available to play for them despite reports he was set to feature in the Indian Premier League.

It had been claimed that the South African paceman had been bought for $60,000 by Jaipur in the second round of auctions for the big-money Twenty20 event which starts on April 18.

But Morkel is contracted to Yorkshire from the beginning of April.

advertisementA club statement read: "Having discussed the situation with the owner of the Jaipur franchise, Manoj Badale, the club has been assured that Morne has not signed a contract with Jaipur and will not play IPL cricket in 2008, allowing him to join up with the Yorkshire squad in time for the start of the season."

Morne is currently on international duty with the South African team in Bangladesh so Yorkshire have been unable to speak directly with him.

Morkel was initially signed to play while first-choice overseas player Rana Naved completed his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury.

But Naved looks to have effectively made himself ineligible to play by taking part in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League.

Morkel has also been called up for South Africa's squad for the three-match series in India from March 26 to April 15. Yorkshire's first competitive game is on April 20.
