Absolem leads Heroes to 52 run win

Alfred Absolom was the star for the Hyderabad Heroes claiming 7 wickets in a 52 run thrashing of the Ahmedabad Rockets at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Heroes came into the match as favorites especially with their impressive run at home, winning back to back matches in their own backyard at the Edelweiss 20s Challenge.

It turned out to be the 3rd straight victory for the Heroes defeating the Rockets comprehensively by 52runs. Alfred Absolem was declared man of the match for his world record 7/15, which is the best bowling spell ever in a twenty over game.

Pat Symcox, in his pitch report predicted a turning track at the same time, with a bit of cloud cover at Hyderabad, expected a bit of swing bowling coming into play. Damien Martyn won the toss and elected to field first. The Heroes opened their innings with a new combination of Maher & Shashank Nag, who came into this match in place of the promising Anirudh Singh.

Three boundaries off Gillespie's 2nd over had the Heroes get off to a steady start at 21 for no loss at the end of the 3rd over. Maher was off to a flier, taking off from his pervious man of the match innings, taking 17 runs off rookie Baburao Yadav.

At the end of the fifth over, the Heroes were on target to script a big total at 39 for no loss. The Rockets got their first breakthrough with the unfortunate run-out of Nag in the 6th over. Maher was going great guns & brought up his second consecutive fifty in the 9th over off only 26 balls. At the end of the 11thover, the Heroes were comfortably placed at 91/1 with both Maher & Rayudu looking in ominous touch.

A light shower in the 13th over reduced to match to an 18 over per side match. Rayudu was timing the ball beautifully & brought up his maiden ICL fifty with a classic straight drive off Sodhi in the 14th over. Rayudu's magnificent knock of 65 off only 36 balls came to an end in the 17th over.

His entertaining innings included 6 fours & 4 magnificent sixes. The Heroes onslaught, led by Maher & Rayudu concluded at175/4 in their allotted 18 overs, including 20fours & 5 sixes.

The reply from the Rockets, started with their inform combination of Hinds & Dholpure. The light showers had livened up the pitch and both Razzaq & Kemp were extracting some bounce and movement from the pitch. Kemp got the first breakthrough inform of Dholpure's wicket reducing the Rockets to 12/1, at the end of the 2nd over.

Newly promoted no.3 batsman Parviz Aziz, was bating courageously hitting 3 consecutive boundaries of the internationally acclaimed Abdul Razzaq in the 5th over. Aziz's little cameo of 35 runs came to an end when Alfred Absolem castled him in the 9th over reducing the Rockets to 56/2.

At the halfway mark of their innings the Rockets were struggling with 67/3, needing another 113 off only 54 balls at 12.6 runs per over. Alfred Absolem bowled a wonderful spell getting four big scalps in the crucial middle overs, reducing the Rockets 93/5 in the 12th over. In the end, Absolem was too hot too handle and his 7/15 off 4 overs destroyed the Rockets batting line up. The Rockets innings finally folded at 127, falling short by 52 runs.
