Eagles claim third place with win

The Gestetner Diamond Eagles claimed third place on the final Standard Bank Pro20 series log with a 13-run win over the Chevrolet Warriors in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

A late blast by Dillon du Preez lifted the Eagles to a total of 145 for five. Then Jandre Coetzee snapped up three for 15 as the Warriors wobbled to 132 for eight in reply.

Du Preez clubbed his unbeaten 40 off 22 balls with two fours and fours sixes to lift the visitors to their match-winning total.

The Eagles slumped to 95 for five in the 16th over before Du Preez walked to the crease, and 50 runs flowed from the 27 balls that remained in the innings.

Free-swinging Roger Telemachus, who hit a six and a four in his 15 not out, helped Du Preez put the Eagles' biggest stand on the board.

The rest of the Eagles' order failed to fire, with Loots Bosman's 29 and Dean Elgar's 23 the only other highlights.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe did a decent job with the new ball and took one for 12 from three overs, while Wayne Parnell was good value in conceding just 19 runs.

Off-spinner Johan Botha put the brakes on effectively and took one for 20.

Opener Riaan Jeggels tried hard to hold the Warriors' top order together with his 43, which flew off 39 balls with five fours and a six.

But the wickets tumbled around him, and when Jeggels top-edged a pull off Coetzee and was caught by Boeta Dippenaar at backward square leg the home side slumped to 78 for four in the 13th over.

Coetzee also accounted for Justin Kreusch, who made 20 - the Warriors' next highest score - before driving and being well caught by a diving Elgar at long-off.

That left the Warriors hanging on at 105 for seven in the 18th over, and the Eagles knew victory was all but certain.
