Gilchrist fully charged for Chargers
Adam Gilchrist's whirlwind 109 took the Deccan Chargers to a stunning 10-wicket success over the Mumbai Indians in the second of Sunday's Indian Premier League fixtures.
The Australian struck nine fours and 10 sixes during a 48-ball knock that allowed the Chargers to chase down a target of 155 with more than seven overs to spare.
Gilchrist was well supported by his skipper, VVS Laxman, who took a more sedate approach to finish unbeaten on 36 from 29 balls.
Mumbai were led by Shaun Pollock in the continued absence of Sachin Tendulkar due to injury and the suspended Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan faces a disciplinary hearing following an incident with Shantha Sreesanth at the conclusion of Friday's IPL game against the Kings XI Punjab. The off-spinner is alleged to have slapped his India team-mate.
Pollock was required to bail his side out with the bat after they slumped to 27-3 inside the first six overs - Luke Ronchi (13), Ajinkya Rahane (0) and Robin Uthappa (6) all back in the pavilion.
A solid run-a-ball 31 from the South African and rapid contributions further down the order by Abhishek Nayar (34) and Dwayne Bravo (34) allowed the Indians to reach a final total of 154-7.
RP Singh was the pick of the Chargers bowling attack with 2-15 from his four-over allocation.
