Deccan Chargers hit by Laxman blow
Deccan Chargers' inaugural Indian Premier League campaign has gone from bad to worse with the news that captain VVS Laxman is unlikely to play again in this year’s tournament.
Deccan were amongst the favourites for the IPL but have slumped to second bottom of the rankings thanks to a record of just two wins from nine.
Laxman has been one of Deccan’s better performers with an average of a shade over 30, but a hairline fracture just below his right wrist means they will probably have to do without him for the remainder of the competition.
"After a thorough check up, I've been advised to go for an MRI scan and I won't be able to play for the next 15 days,” he said.
"It is all the more disappointing since the injury came when I was getting into the groove.
“I was very keen to play in the coming match but I found it nearly impossible to hold the bat and face even a tennis ball.
“It’s sad that I had to miss some of the matches. It is all the more disappointing since the injury came when I was getting into the groove.”
