Royal Challengers limp to 154-7

A maiden half century from Bangalore Royal Challengers wicket keeper Shreevats Goswami helped the bottom-placed franchise reach a semi-respectable 154-7 in their IPL match against the Delhi Daredevils at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Monday.

The diminutive Goswami nudged and pushed his way to 52 from 42 balls with seven fours and a six after Jacques Kallis, opening the innings, made a sadly studious 25 from 21 balls.

Delhi were amongst the early front-runners in the competition but have not done themselves justice in recent days losing four of their last five matches. They need to beat the basement dwellers and Delhi captain Virender Sehwag had good reason to bowl first on a conducive surface.

Glenn McGrath was once again in spectacular form with the ball bowling two overs at each end of the innings to finish with 2-15.

Sri Lankan all rounder Farveez Maharoof was no less impressive with figures of 2-13 in the middle of the innings but their good work was undone by Pradeep Sangwan’s three overs which cost 51 and Rajat Bhatia who conceded 24 runs in the final over of the innings to Pakistan’s big-hitter Misbah-ul-Haq who finished unbeaten on 47 from just 25 deliveries.
