Hampshire lose Twenty20 stars
The Hampshire Hawks will be without Chris Tremlett and Dimitri Mascarenhas for the group stage of this season's Twenty20 Cup after the pair were named in England's one-day squad for next month's five-match series against New Zealand.
Tremlett and Mascarenhas were today included alongside Kevin Pietersen in the 14-man squad.
Kent spinner James Tredwell is dropped but the main surprise is the inclusion of Test wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose ahead of Phil Mustard.
advertisementAfter a Twenty20 match against the Kiwis on June 13 at Old Trafford, England play one-dayers against New Zealand at Chester-le-Street (15th), Edgbaston (18th), Bristol (21st), the Brit Oval (25th) and Lord's (28th).
Hampshire begin their Twenty20 campaign against the Middlesex Crusaders at the Rose Bowl on June 11 and their tenth and final group game takes place against the Essex Eagles at Chelmsford on June 27.
To help cover for the absence of Mascarenhas and Tremlett, Hampshire have signed South African all-rounder Rory Kleinveldt as a Kolpak player, subject to his registration being approved at Lord's.
The Hawks will also be boosted by the Kolpak signing of Nantie Hayward when the fast bowler gains match fitness as well as the arrival of Shane Watson, who is currently starring for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
