Raina and Pathan star for Chennai
New Indian heroes Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan were the stars as the Chennai Super Kings scored 163 for five in the Indian Premier League final against the Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai.
Off-spinner Pathan, who bowls at a brisk pace and generally lands the ball straight but back of a length, was the pick of the Rajasthan bowlers with three for 22 in four outstanding overs.
Pathan, who was called up last week for the Indian limited-overs squad, took the first three wickets when the Chennai top-order were in and well set.
Sivaramakrishnan Vidyut (16) and Albie Morkel (16) both skied cramped pulls and when Parthiv Patel was neatly caught behind by Kamran Akmal for 38 off 33 balls, Chennai, on 95 for three in the 13th over, were left with a mountain to climb in order to post a challenging total.
But the in-form Raina then scored 43 in 30 balls before he was dismissed by Shane Watson in the 17th over, while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 29 not out off 17 balls in the closing overs to leave his team in with a shout.
Watson bowled superbly at the death, conceding just 11 runs in his last two overs. Teams:
