ICC chief hails IPL impact
ICC president David Morgan has paid tribute to the success of the inaugural Indian Premier League, hailing the competition for bringing a new audience to the game of cricket.
Rajasthan Royals emerged triumphant in a thrilling final on Sunday when beating Chennai Super Kings on the final ball of the game to bring a suitably dramatic conclusion to an action-packed six weeks.
The revolutionary tournament, broadcast exclusively live on Setanta Sports, has been a huge success in India with crowds flocking to see a mixture of world stars and young Indian talents competing in the Twenty20 form of the game.
Morgan has warmly welcomed the innovation and the hordes of new fans he feels the IPL has attracted to the game.
"It has provided opportunities for other cricket playing nations [to take it forward], said Morgan.
It has got widespread appeal and has attracted new audiences to the game.
"I'm proud that Twenty20, a format first developed by the England and Wales Cricket Board, had such a widespread appeal, bringing in new, wider and young audience, which ICC welcomes.
