Michael Vaughan heads Moxon's big guns

England Test trio of Michael Vaughan, Darren Gough and Matthew Hoggard are all likely to play tonight as Yorkshire Carnegie launch their campaign for the richest prize in domestic cricket.

Director of cricket Martyn Moxon has named his big guns among the squad of 14 as Yorkshire begin their pursuit of a place in the Twenty20 Cup final, which opens the door to the 5m Champions League at the end of the season.

Vaughan returns from England duty to make his debut for Yorkshire in Twenty20 colours while Hoggard looks to continue his attempt to earn an England recall.

Yorkshire captain Gough returns after missing the weekend's LV County Championship match at Somerset.

All three featured in a 'probable' line-up put through their paces by Moxon yesterday.

Spin bowler David Wainwright and all-rounder Adil Rashid are both expected to feature, with Ashley Lyth set to miss out.

For Wainwright, it is the opportunity to build on last year's impressive form in the quickfire version of the game.

"It kick-started my season last year so, hopefully, it can do the same this year," he said.

"At the end of it, I was really pleased, but at the beginning, I was thinking 'what's a good run-rate for a spinner to go for?' I didn't really have an idea, I wasn't experienced at that sort of cricket."

The financial rewards now on offer for the two finalists in the Champions League has focused attention on the Twenty20 Cup.

But Wainwright says: "We've just got to concentrate on the domestic competition to start with, not really look at the bigger picture and take each game as it comes."
