Foxes call up Taylor and Cliff for Twenty20 tie

A-Level student James Taylor was in action for his new county side Leicestershire as they rung the changes in their disappointing Twenty20 campaign.

Taylor and young seamer Sam Cliff, from Bottesford, both made their Twenty20 debuts in a young Foxes side at Derbyshire yesterday.

They provided some rare bright moments in a poor campaign which saw them slump to their seventh successive defeat which has consigned them to finish bottom of the northern division with three games still to play.

Batting at number six, 18-year-old Taylor, who made his First Class debut earlier this season, made 22 from 21 balls in his first Twenty20 match including a superb six off Rikki Clarke.

He was Leicestershire's second top scorer behind the experienced Hylton Ackerman with whom Taylor shared Foxes' highest stand of 44 for the fifth wicket.

But in another disappointing batting display, the visitors totalled just 118 for 6.

Cliff, who has been impressing in Leicestershire's Second XI this season, took the wicket of Clarke, removing his middle stump to end a stand of 65.

He compiled respectable figures of 4-0-24-1, the second most economical bowling display, but Derbyshire cruised to their target with seven wickets and two overs to spare.
