Cairns and Mongia suspended by ICL
The Indian Cricket League's Executive Board has suspended Chandigarh Lions captain Chris Cairns and Dinesh Mongia for the rest of the series, a release said on Tuesday.
While Cairns claims that he needs an immediate ankle operation, sources tell CNN-IBN that ICL officials were concerned about the players' involvement with bookmakers. Another coach is expected to be sacked soon.
The organisers, however, refused to reveal the reason behind the decision.
Chandigarh Lions played their previous game on Sunday against Hyderabad Heroes, which they lost by nine wickets.
The ICL is battling for recognition from the ICC and any such development will be a body blow for the league.
The Lions will now be led by South African Andrew Hall for the rest of the season.
