It was a crucial match for both sides to remain in contention for a berth in the semi finals. In the end it was a brilliant all round performance from the Dhaka Warriors that saw them cruise to a comprehensive 13 run victory. Nazimuddin & Mahbubul Karim declared joint man of the match.

Earlier in the evening Damien Martyn won the toss and elected to field. The formidable opening combination of Nazimuddin & Nafees could not get off to their usual flying start with Gillespie, striking early with the wicket of Nafees in the second over on the Dhaka score of 15.

Aftab Ahmed joined Nazimuddin in the middle and the two took the attack to the famed Ahmedabad pace attack, taking the score to 43 in the fifth over, before Heath Streak struck back with the wicket of Aftab Ahmed in the same over. At the end of the fifth over the Dhaka side were placed at 50/2.

Gillespie came back for a second spell in the 10th over and got into the act right away picking the big wicket of Nazimuddin falling short of his half century by 2 runs. Nazimuddin’s knock of 48 came off 29 balls & was laced with 3 fours and 4 sixes. The 11th over mark had the Dhaka side well placed at 93/3 and the dangerous Alok Kapali holding the batting mantel.

Martyn introduced his spinners Kalia & Sriram in the crucial middle overs who managed to plug the Dhaka run flow to some extent. Sriram got the big break by castling Alok Kapali in the 14th over, ending his promising knock of 26 off 22 balls.

Sriram struck again getting the opposition skipper Bashar’s wicket in the 16th over to leave the Dhaka batting in a bit of a bother at 128/5. Mahbubul Karim however had other ideas & took over the batting mantel playing a lovely cameo laced with some brilliant stroke play. Dhiman Ghosh was playing the perfect foil to Karim in the brilliant 6th wicket partnership worth 53 runs. Gillespie scalped his third victim in form of Ghosh out for a well made 18.

Karim was the standout batsman and his unbeaten knock was worth 45 runs off only 22 balls including 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the end it was some brilliant aggressive batting, laced with 15 fours & 10 sixes that helped the Dhaka Warriors set their Ahmedabad counterparts a competitive target of 182. For the Ahmedabad side it was again their old war horse Gillespie, who returned with the best figures of 3/29.

The Dhaka bowlers came out with purpose bowling a disciplined line not allowing any free leeway for the other wise dangerous Ahmedabad openers. The pressure created by both Sharif & Baisya yielded dividends with the big wicket of Campbell, castled by Baisya in the 4th over, with only 12 runs against his name.

Goodwin was however looking in good touch at the other end, scoring 15 runs off Sharif’s third over, to take the score to 48/1 at the end of 5 overs.

At the half way mark of their innings the Ahmedabad side was placed at 85/2 needing another 97 runs & the Martyn- Goodwin combination working in a good partnership. Goodwin brought his fifty in the 12th over off 37 balls; laced with 7 fours to the boundary.

Just when Goodwin was looking like running away from the match Kapali struck ending his brilliant innings of 59 in the 12th over in turn ending the 44 run partnership for the third wicket. Mosharraf & Kapali bowled some crucial tight overs in the middle over stage to build pressure on the Ahmedabad batsmen.
